What to bring to an indoor playground
Updated October 20, 2026 · Written by the IndoorPlayMap team from venue-published information
Most surprises at an indoor playground come from house rules, not the play structure. We read the rules pages of the venues in this directory. These are the items and checks that came up again and again.
The checklist
- Socks for every child and adult. Kids Empire says socks are required for everyone and shoes stay off the play floor. Hyper Kidz requires socks for children and adults on entry. Dream City in Queens asks for socks on infants too. Details are in our sock rules guide.
- A signed waiver. Hyper Kidz says every guest must sign one. Kids Empire requires waivers for all guests and says signing online ahead of time speeds up check-in.
- A card, not just cash. Kids Empire locations are card-only. Smaller venues vary. Tiny Town Playland in San Antonio takes cash, credit and debit.
- Snacks, but check first. Maui Maui Kids Play Island in San Antonio does not allow outside food or drink and runs its own café. Tiny Town Playland also bans outside food and drink. If a venue does not say, assume snacks stay out of the play area.
- A plan to stay. These are supervised-by-you spaces. Kids Empire says a responsible adult must stay on site. Emmazing Play says parents and guardians must remain on the premises.
- A reservation for small spaces. Small play cafés cap numbers. Kidz PlayZone in Brooklyn says reservations are highly encouraged. Dream City says reservations are required.
- Water bottle and a change of clothes for toddlers. Ball pits and climbing make kids hot fast.
Money-saving checks
- Ask whether infants are free. Kids Empire and Hyper Kidz let babies under one in free with a paying sibling. Nana's Wonderland does the same for babies under 10 months.
- Count adults. Kids Empire includes two adults per paid child. Little Sharks Playground says parents are free.
- Look for weekday rates. Hyper Kidz Dallas posts lower Monday to Thursday prices than Friday to Sunday.
