Open play vs memberships: when a playground membership pays off
Updated October 20, 2026 · Written by the IndoorPlayMap team from venue-published information
Many indoor playgrounds sell a monthly membership next to the single open play ticket. Whether it saves money depends on one number: how many visits a month you will really make. Here is the math using prices venues publish on their own sites, checked October 20, 2026.
Published single-visit and membership prices
| Venue | Single visit | Membership | Break-even |
|---|---|---|---|
| We Rock the Spectrum Dallas | $14 per child | $70 per month, 1 child, unlimited | 5 visits a month |
| We Rock the Spectrum Cibolo Canyons | $16 for 2 hours, $20 day pass | $95 per month, 1 child | 6 two-hour visits, or 5 day passes |
| My Little Paris Cafe and Play | $12.99 per child | $50 per month, 1 child; $100 for 2 children | 4 visits a month |
| Happy Beans Play Cafe | Not published, check with venue | $60 per month, unlimited weekday play | Depends on the day pass price |
| LEGOLAND Discovery Center San Antonio (not a listed venue) | From $21.99 online | $59 annual pass | 3 visits a year |
How to decide
- Under 3 visits a month: pay per visit. A monthly plan rarely beats single tickets at that rate in the table above.
- 4 to 6 visits a month: this is the break-even zone for most monthly plans. Weekday-only plans like Happy Beans work if your visits fall on weekdays.
- Annual passes at attraction-style venues pay off fast. The LEGOLAND Discovery Center pass costs less than three single online tickets.
- Siblings change the math. We Rock the Spectrum Dallas discounts siblings on single visits, and My Little Paris charges $100 for two children per month.
Cheaper alternatives to a membership
- All-day tickets. Kids Empire and Giggles and Fun sell all-day play, so one ticket can cover a morning and an after-nap visit. Giggles and Fun charges $14 plus tax, and $10 on Wednesdays.
- Discount days. Giggles and Fun's Wednesday price is the clearest example in our data.
- Free adults. Kids Empire includes two adults per paid child, Kanga's includes one adult with each kid entry, and Giggles and Fun says adults are always free.
Before you sign up
- Read the cancellation terms. Giggles and Fun says its plan can be canceled anytime; other venues do not say.
- Check whether members still pay for grip socks.
- Check whether weekend parties close the play area to members.
