Indoor playground sock rules
Updated October 20, 2026 · Written by the IndoorPlayMap team from venue-published information
Short answer: yes, almost always, and often for adults too. Socks keep the padded floors cleaner and reduce slips. Here is what venues in our directory publish.
What venues say
| Venue | Rule as published | Socks sold on site |
|---|---|---|
| Hyper Kidz Westchase | Required at all times for children and adults. Your own socks are fine. | Yes, $2.99 |
| Tiny Town Playland | Mandatory for adults and kids. Any socks are fine. | Yes, $3.00 |
| Emmazing Play | Required for all guests including adults. During open play, children must wear the venue's own grip socks. | Yes, $5 |
| Kids Empire (all locations) | Required for everyone. Shoes stay off the play floor. | Yes (price not published) |
| Rowan Clubhouse Dallas | Grip socks required in the playground area. | Yes (price not published) |
| GoPlayland Staten Island | Grip socks required for all children entering the play area. | Not stated |
| Little Sharks Playground | All children and adults must wear non-slip socks. | Not stated |
| Maui Maui Kids Play Island | Required on all matted play areas for children and adults. | Yes (price not published) |
Also seen: The Rush Fun Park in San Antonio requires its own Rush grip socks ($4.99) with no substitutions.
What this means for you
- Pack socks for every adult who might step onto the mats, not only the kids.
- If your child has grip socks from another venue, they are usually fine where the rule is just "socks". Where the venue says its own grip socks are required, expect to buy a pair.
- Bring a spare pair for toddlers. Babies pull socks off. Dream City asks parents of babies who will not keep socks on to plan ahead.
